Metal Leaf

Metal leaf finishes are versatile and are a more economical alternative to real gold leaf.  They can be distressed to bring through a colour underneath, aged, and waxed to create an antique effect or can be polished with a clear wax to create a bright gold, silver, or gilver finish.

Examples of metal leaf being used in bespoke frame and mirror projects: 

• - A bamboo mirror with an antique gold metal leaf finish. 
• - A handsome hand-carved mirror finished in gilver (a combination of gold and silver) leaf. 
• - An eye-catching gold metal leaf bevel used to frame a small oil painting by Sherree Valentine Daines.
• - A mirror made using our Oxford profile and finished in distressed black with an antique gold metal leaf sight edge. 
• - A Fred Yates oil painting framed using a distressed gold metal leaf finish with a gesso wash and gesso slip.
